Lapis Lazuli
With an intense royal blue colour peppered with golden specks of Pyrite, Lapis Lazuli is the enigmatic night sky of gems.
A stone with ancient roots, Lapis Lazuli has been used in jewellery and ornamentation since the Neolithic age and has been a much sought after gemstone throughout history. Originally discovered in the Hindu Kush mountains of northern Afghanistan, Lapis Lazuli is considered a sacred stone in many cultures.
During the European Renaissance, the stone was crushed into powder to make a paint of the deepest blue possible, ultramarine, and then used in paintings such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring.
Known as the stone of friendship and truth, it is thought to promote harmony and patience in relationships of all kinds. It is associated with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) and the Third Eye (Ajna), helping the wearer to express emotions, build confidence and release stress. Our Lapis lazuli Third Eye Chakra Bracelet is not only a beautiful use of this amazing stone, but can also be used as a meditation aid.
Lapis lazuli is a birthstone for the month of September and is traditionally the stone of choice to celebrate a ninth wedding anniversary.
